Completed vocational training as a Social Worker, social pedagogue, curative teacher, occupational therapist or equivalent training and a minimum of 2 years work experience with gerontological psychiatric clientele.

Successful participation in the TÜV Rheinland Akademie training course “Professional for Gerontological Psychiatry (TÜV)” recognized by the certification body. Admission to the examination is granted upon a minimum attendance of 80% of the total 320 teaching units.

Written exam (multiple choice and open questions) and project work.

In the examination participants prove their knowledge in the following areas:

• Fundamentals of gerontology, gerontological psychology and geriatric medicine
• Legal fundamentals
• Care fundamentals
• Conditions, causes and risk factors of mental disorders in old age.
