The Yokohama College of Art and Design’s Poster Exhibition

“Environment problems & public issues

The Yokohama College of Art and Design is located in Aoba-ku, Yokohama City. It is a member of the Tokiwamatsu Gakuen Group, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in November last year. Students enrolled in our Faculty of Fine Arts can choose to specialize in one among the eight programs offered by the Department of Arts.

This is the sixth time that this exhibition is being held, thanks to cooperation from TÜV Rheinland Japan. It gives students a unique opportunity to reveal to the public the artistic sensitivity they invest in creating their works of art and graphic design.

The protection of the environment is one of the most important issues we are facing today. Around the world, stricter and stricter regulations are being enacted to limit auto exhaust gas emissions, with the goal of reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. In many places, hybrid and electric cars as well as the infrastructure for charging them are coming into wide use. In addition, the advancement of the Internet has allowed the creation of Social Network Systems and the use of smartphones. These have become part of our daily routine and have substantially changed the information environment that surrounds us. E-commerce has also brought about big changes in the way markets operate, in logistics, and in people’s work environments. However, the convenience of these innovations also presents us with new challenges. We have encouraged our students to use their works of art as a medium of expression of their thoughts. Among the topics they are reflecting upon are our natural environment, the "post-truth" political and social milieu everyone is talking about these days, and other issues involving people and the society they are creating

The posters displayed in this exhibition were created by seniors in the Visual Communication Design course and by juniors in Illustration course taught at the Yokohama College of Art and Design. These posters illustrate the students' positions on public issues, including environmental problems. Please enjoy them. The expression of your thoughts about them would be most appreciated.

Note: Originally, names of organizations and institutions were also indicated on the works of art, but this information has been partly removed for this exhibition.
