Certification Program Title:Building Retrofit Specialist with TÜV Rheinland Certified Qualification
Admission Requirements:

The participants bring the following educational and  professional background:

  • Master’s degree in any construction-related area of Engineering (Architectural, Civil, Electrical, Energy, Mechanical) or Architecture OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related area of Engineering (Architectural, Civil, Electrical, Energy, Mechanical) or Architecture and minimum of one-year relevant working experience in building engineering or energy management OR
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience in building engineering or energy management

AND

Participation in the training course “Advanced Building Retrofit Training” of the provider Emirates Green Building Council approved by PersCert TÜV. The course duration is total of minimum of 16 hours. The presence is documented by the provider by signature of the participant. Admission to the exam is subject to a minimum attendance of 80%.

Successful candidates have the competence in order to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of building retrofit principles and procedures applicable to the MENA region
  • Apply the principles of energy audits, building commissioning, preventive maintenance, and measurement and verification
  • Assess and differentiate different HVAC systems, HVAC controls and identify energy efficient HVAC systems, retrofit measures for lighting, pumps, fans, motors
  • Apply electric networks calculations and optimization techniques
  • Assess the design and functioning of different types of solar thermal and solar photovoltaic power systems
  • Identify economically viable retrofit solutions for different building typologies, assess the risks and benefits of the retrofit measures
  • Identify and use the relevant financial metrics to evaluate retrofit projects and energy efficiency measures
  • Recommend techniques for improving the environmental performance of existing buildings, including energy, water, waste, indoor environment, etc.
Recertification:
Participants demonstrate the relevance of their competence in a recertification process.
