Certification Program Title:Human Organizational Factors (HOF) Designer with TÜV Rheinland certified Qualification
Admission Requirements:
  • Successfully completed course of study and a minimum of 3 years professional experience, incl. one year (min) in the nuclear power sector

or

  • Successfully completed vocational training with further qualification as Technician and 5 years of professional experience, incl. one year (min) in the nuclear power sector

and

  • Certified „Human Machine Interface (HMI) Designer“ following successful completion of the TÜV Rheinland approved Qualification Program „HMI Designer“
    or
    professional experience in Human Machine Interface (HMI) Design and acquired knowledge of the ergonomic design of workspaces, man-machine interaction, and alarm systems
  • Very good communication skills in German and English
  • Fundamental knowledge in the fields of process and control technology (can be achieved through training as part of the training program)
  • Fundamental knowledge in the fields of process and control technology (can be achieved by training as part of the certification program)
Examination Components:
  • Written exam (multiple choice and open questions)
  • Preparation of a research paper for submission to an international conference
Required Competencies:

In the examination participants prove their knowledge in the following areas:

  • Basic knowledge in setting up and carrying out an HFE Program and
  • HOF fundamentals, ranging from the review of past operating experience through guidance and advice on the proper use of automation and HMI usability to the validation of the suitability of the provided integrated support (incl. operational procedures and training) for task performance
  • Applied psychological measurement methods for usability testing, interview techniques and questionnaires design
  • Understanding of plant operation and operating concepts

Successful candidates are in a position to develop and manage project-specific HOF programs, guide the design and evaluate the adequacy of the resulting control rooms and conventional and computerized HMIs installed for their intended use. Knowledge and skills in the engineering of human factors, usability, and ergonomics are thereby applied.
